HYDRECO is an active participant in numerous national and international research programs, including studies conducted on the:
production, oxidation, and emission of greenhouse gases by tropical reservoirs;
dissemination of mercury throughout the dam reservoir, the Sinnamary River, and the entire estuarial system (French Guiana);
reproductive strategies of fish in tropical reservoirs (French Guiana and Surinam); and
establishment of water quality indices (French Guiana and the American tropics) and biodiversity and endemism (French Guiana).
The laboratory continues to undertake numerous impact assessment studies for or in conjuction with divers local organizations (e.g., EDF, CNES, APAVE, GRID). It also has an on-going relationship with Entomed, a medical research group based in France that is working to discover and develop innovative medical products derived from insects.
