The Environmental Laboratory at Petit Saut boasts a safe, modern infrastructure within close proximity to the reservoir whose physical, chemical and biological characteristics have been recorded regularly since the creation of this artificial ecosystem. Added to the results obtained from periodic studies conducted by outside laboratories, these measures constitute an exceptional database with which to analyze the processes and functional modeling of tropical dam reservoirs.
The laboratory remains an exceptional base from which to undertake quantitative investigations into the environment, and its engineers and technicians have acquired a highly specified knowledge of the most divers Guianese aquatic milieu (e.g., natural and planned waterways, swamps, rice paddies, treatment plants).
